Fitting 3D models to images

A parameterized model was optimized to match over-head images (left) and mechanical drawings (right). Parameters included

• Fuselage - length, diameter, shape
• Engine - type, location, number, size
• Wing - location, span, sweep, tapper, step, winglet type
• Tail - height, sweep, span, location, tapper
• View - direction, orientation
• Light - sun location, weather conditions

The minimized objective function was the sum of the closest distances between edges. The distance was a function of both edge position and orientation.
